Pipeline closure will force southern Utah company to flare its natural gas, costing it revenue and polluting the air

(Tribune file photo by Brian Maffly) This natural gas processing plant north of Moab is served by a pipeline that Utah regulators ordered shut down this month, calling it a "hazardous facility" because of its operators' poor compliance with safety standards. Because the pipeline will go offline, this plant could have to flare the gas coming off a nearby oil field and gathered in a costly 51-mile network of pipes.
