(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) The Utah Department of Environmental Quality, with the help of local authorities, has removed tires and garbage that were illegally dumped on the banks of Lee Kay Ponds Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019. Last August, jail inmates hauled nearly 4,000 tires from these wetlands west of Salt Lake City, which have long been misused as convenience dumping ground by those trying to avoid tipping fees at the nearby landfills.
