Even violent inmates get out. Here’s why Utah’s Sen. Mike Lee and others think they should have access to college courses in prison.

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Matt Holman was incarcerated for 15 years in Utah and earned his associate’s degree while he was in prison, but was unable to continue his education after Utah cut funding for prison education following the recession. When Matt was released, he enrolled at the University of Utah where he was able to transfer the credits he earned while incarcerated and continue to pursue his bachelor's degree in Information Technology. He graduated from the University of Utah this month with a 4.0 GPA.
